Greetings once again everyone. I really want to thank all of you who’ve started following this Tumblr over the last few months, and I do apologize that updates have been a bit on the infrequent side. I’ve actually been working harder than ever on further concept art, and a host of really neat things I can’t wait to share. I am still in the midst of solidifying the characters through design and writing, which is practically one of the last phases before actual comic production. As I am able to remove myself from the drafting board, I’ll aim to have more teasers and preliminary art up. But again, thanks for your interest in Frolic, it’s you great folks who give quirky projects like mine the time of day, that allow weird people like me to share our stories and ideas. You’re more important to me than you know.
Now many people have been immensely curious about the implications of this new project, which makes sense as I’ve barely released anything solid on the new title. But what I’ll share with all of you is what I’ve shared with others. Frolic will be a very different kind of work for me. Focusing on heavier, darker, disturbing concepts, as well as a narrative driven entirely by the chemistry of it’s exceptionally odd cast of characters. It is a comic with which I hope to say many things, by saying next to nothing at all. And while drawing heavily from classic literature and germanic folktales, will be much more avant garde than my previous works, which while leaving much to reader to decipher were still intentionally written to be more direct than Frolic will be. I am very enthusiastic about going forward, and I hope I can pass some of the enthusiasm on to you too.
Thanks for bearing with me. The dark is on its way.
Here’s an updated version of the previously teased “Gore Jackal”, another creature that will appear in the story. This is a first demonstration of some of the methods I will be using to produce the comic.
Also, Frolic has a twitter.
It’s taking more shape every day, though I find myself in the process of still more heavy-duty designing, with significant headway in the department of character design. I’ve a busy month ahead, but I’ll hope to post new material as time allows. I also reckon that now is probably a good time to let all of you know about Frolic’s new Twitter Account. Feel free to follow the tweets, add it to your lists, and stay up to date on all the latest happenings. Stay sharp all of you!
Development continues.
Spent the past week refining AND refining AND refining. I am, however, many steps closer to a finalized first piece of writing, which is nice, considering the mounds worth of text I’ve typed up to get there. Either way, here are some more conceptual artistic designs I’ve been hewing at. Still very much working to lock down a solid look for the project, but as with the writing I’ve got a feeling I’m very close to exactly what I want this time around. Stay sharp.
